Sam Peckinpah Why is it everywhere you look on the net there's either a list or popularity contest? Well we're not here to change the world so above is our Top 10. But before your stomach tightens and you realize that we've missed your favorite from the list, just pause - take a breath and let us explain. Being a master filmmaker is like being a master painter. Now there's thousands of painters all over the world and throughout time who have painted absolutely beautiful pictures; but there are only a handful who can be called Master Painters. So what makes a Claude Monet or Pablo Picasso? The answer is ... no fear of time. A painting's excellence is not measured in the time it took to create it. The artist does not worry about whether it takes a day or a year, he instinctively uses the time needed. An innate knowledge of what it takes to make a piece of art work. Whether instinctive, book learned or some of both, the artist knows what is needed and is able to achieve what they want. Masters are willing to work constantly to develop technical skill and a mastery of the materials. And lastly and probably most importantly ... the unnamed and unknowables. The passion, the soul, the heart, the gift, the God given talent, the drive, the quest, the perfectionism, the humbleness and the confidence ...... all those things that are only known within the heart of each artist but appear on the canvas and are visible to everyone who sees the work.
